Jon was born and raised just outside a small northern Michigan town.  He is proud of his middle class roots and the public school upbringing that gave him a great foundation for life.   He credits his family with instilling in him a hard work ethic and desire to create a better community.

Jon came to West Michigan to attend Grand Valley State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Administration.  He got his first taste of local government while serving as an intern at the West Grand Neighborhood Association (WGNO).   During this time, he was instrumental in establishing the Adeline's Promise program, which helps seniors and life-long residents remain in their homes.   Jon's love of Grand Rapids' West Side led him to purchase his first home near John Ball Park.   Shortly after, he began serving as a board member with WGNO.  In 2009, he was elected by his peers to serve as President of WGNO.

Jon worked his way through college as the foreman for a small property management, lawn care, and snow plowing company.  He obtained his real estate license while in college at the encouragement of his grandfather.  Upon graduating, he began work as an office manager for a residential real estate appraisal company while continuing his studies to become a licensed real estate appraiser.   In 2007, Jon began work as an independent real estate appraiser, eventually establishing his own company- West Michigan Appraisers.

Jon is a former member of the Grand Rapids Board of Housing Appeals.  He is active in working with the West Leonard Business Association and also serves as a member fo the Southwest Area Neighbors.  Jon has a great love of the outdoors instilled in him by his family and is an avid hunter and fisherman.
